Last Voyage of the Rainbow Warrior
I cast a new vision for our world. Like bleached coral growing itself back, nature is last to bat.
In my work, I reference the anti-institutional environmental institution Greenpeace and the demise of one of their vessels. In doing so, I am acknowledging the fight. I bear witness to human efforts to create a better world.
In these brightly colored and textural paintings, and sculptures, I focus on the beauty of our reefs and life forms and how we are destroying them as we simultaneously work to rebuild them. I accept that I am part of this chain, and yet, I am a difference-maker.
When I create, I think of the beautiful things of the world of which I am so attracted and desire to consume. I use bright colors and coral structures to form something new, and re-imagine nature as powerful, epic, and extravagant, but most important: immune to the touch of man. The paintings are marked by the transformation of one's mind and character: the constant pull of consumerism is satiated by the incessant drive of creation and growth. These paintings create a new awareness of our environment.
