36" x 48" Oil on canvas, 2019
The light poured out of the sky, onto the shiny surface of the sand, still wet from the overnight high tide. Clouds as big as mountains and as light as cotton candy floated effortlessly above, their fluff and coral-colored beauty mirrored in the wet sand beneath. The ocean waves broke far off from shore, their tireless work of shifting shape from crested peaks and then down again to fill their flat bowl of sand, done for the night in this blessed stretch of beach.
There is a sacred place where water meets shore, where heart meets soul, where you and the universe convene.
Sounds from the jungle to my right drift toward us--the shrill, incessant pitch of cicadas and other winged, instrumented insects. Awoken from slumber, the shore is alive with the colors of morning. A new day begins.
