Elephant Pearl resembles a large, white pearl- a symbol of great value reminds us--where does our treasure lie? Thick, buttery paint adorns the surface. To create, I swept my palette knife around the canvas and applied a circular piece of variegated copper leaf to the surface, which is a kind of "beauty mark" for the face of this painting. This painting can be hung in various directions.
These abstract, ocean-inspired paintings come from a place of wanting to be one with water.
Immerse yourself in the peace, wonder, and serenity drawn from real-life experiences of flying forward atop waves, deep dives to rest inside of gentle giant clams, and finding safety inside of coral castles at the edge of the teeming, tropical reef.
I created this collection to find and enter into the spirit of freedom. I experience freedom while playing in water. I let freedom wash over me, as if wiping out in a huge wave--surfboard flying, limbs flinging, lungs burning, mind finding that place of calm in which to wait out the storm. I wanted to feel suspended in the power of creativity, in a timeless tube of grace. I painted using my intuition, instead of having an image or a guide to work from.
Creating these paintings allowed me to uncover a sense of wonder, and led me to commune with the sensuality of paint and a conversation with my paintings. Sometimes the conversation went deep, sometimes it was playful. Creating in a series allowed me to explore my subject matter in a focused way, centered around the theme of water. I hope you enjoy these works of water; these works of art!
