9" x 12" Oil on gallery-wrapped canvas, unframed, sides painted, 2019

Moments of wonder cover every square inch of this modern, oceanic, abstract work of art. Blues and greens swirl together, complemented by peach pinks and gleaming gold. I applied my paint with a palette knife and mixed in wax medium in some areas to create contrast between slick and matte surfaces. Every shade of blue is represented as colors shift from indigo to turquoise, creating jewel-tones for the eyes to feast upon. Pops of fire-engine red dance on an indigo disco floor, and gold shimmers from majestic kelp to adorn the surface of this unique oil painting.

These abstract, ocean-inspired paintings come from a place of wanting to be one with water.

Immerse yourself in the peace, wonder, and serenity drawn from real-life experiences of flying forward atop waves, deep dives to rest inside of gentle giant clams, and finding safety inside of coral castles at the edge of the teeming, tropical reef.

I created this collection to find and enter into the spirit of freedom. I experience freedom while playing in water. I let freedom wash over me, as if wiping out in a huge wave--surfboard flying, limbs flinging, lungs burning, mind finding that place of calm in which to wait out the storm. I wanted to feel suspended in the power of creativity, in a timeless tube of grace. I painted using my intuition, instead of having an image or a guide to work from.

Creating these paintings allowed me to uncover a sense of wonder, and led me to commune with the sensuality of paint and a conversation with my paintings. Sometimes the conversation went deep, sometimes it was playful. Creating in a series allowed me to explore my subject matter in a focused way, centered around the theme of water. I hope you enjoy these works of water; these works of art!
