Acrylic, Gold & Silver Leaf on Canvas, 2019 (16" x 40")
This playful painting features a Barred Owl, native to Central Oregon. I touch on metaphors approaching the idea that Wisdom, like the owl, is camouflaged; present but hidden. One seeks and one finds. Wisdom is better than silver and gold- but in fact, Wisdom will lead you to both. Why the eyes on the trees? Eyes show emotion- I like to think trees and nature has a spirit- or at least an identity. Aspen trees have very striking markings, which resemble eyes. This Barred Owl hides in an aspen tree, watching the world, at peace. The trees surrounding her are guardians of the forest, imbued with personalities and emotions.
